1957, Las Vegas was nicknamed "Mississippi of West," the Vegas Strip segregated, and Nevada Southern, now UNLV mascot, was a Confederate Wolf.
UNLV's mascot, Beauregard Rebel, was a wolf dressed in a confederate uniform. Who shares the same name as Confederate General PGT Beauregard, who started the Civil War.
Over the years, Beauregard Wolf would evolve to a Confederate soldier running with the Confederate flag. Next to a Colonial soldier, and lastly, to "Hey Reb."
The University's mascot has changed over the years, But one thing that's remained the same is the "Rebel" spirit.
